Reflection Pt. 2

Danny went to pick up Monica from school and was surprised by how happy he was to see her.

"Any luck in your investigation?"

Before he could answer, Danny had to kiss her.

"There's no new evidence. Those guys who ran into you are known to be part of the organization, but they've gone underground."

He was playing with her hair and didn't realize it. He had become so comfortable with her. It was scary.

Monica noticed the slight tremble coming from Danny. They had only known each other two days and already she could read him like a book.

"According to our sources, they are transferring Macualan to the Mainland in the next few days. That will be our last chance to get him out. We need the information about when he is to be moved. Maybe the young lady will be useful after all." The fat man laughed a very cynical laugh.

Monica and Danny had established a routine in the few days that they had know n each other. He would drop her off at work and then go to work himself. They would have dinner together and then spend a long night of passion together. The hectic schedule was beginning to wear on Danny. They would have to make an adjustment to say the least.

Danny was catching a quick cat nap when Chin walked by.

"Hey, Danny. Wake up" Danny woke up with a start.

"Late night?" Danny nodded. Very rarely did he share his personal life with anyone.

"Does Steve notice anything?" Danny asked as he poured yet another cup of coffee in a vain attempt to stay awake.

"Not yet _ but he will. What's going on?"

"Monica Ames." Chin's eyebrows went up, but he didn't say anything.

"I think I'm in love with her." Danny was shyly looking down. Chin, again, didn't say anything.

"I know it's crazy. I know that I just met her a few days ago. But . . ." He had turned to the window so that Chin couldn't see that there was a tear in his eye. Chin knew.

"Well, I think you'd better start getting some sleep before Steve finds out." There was a little laugh, and then he was gone.

It was Monica's preparation period, she still had two more classes and she missed Danny. She wasn't prepared when the two men came through the door.

"May I help you?" she stammered.

She moved toward the panic button on the wall.

"Ms. Ames. My name is Wo Fat. May I speak with you? Oh, there is no need to push that button. I'll only be a moment."

Monica instinctively moved away from the button.

"I need a favor, Ms. Ames. We are in need of some information. We need to know when they are moving Macualan."

Monica looked at the man as if he were crazy. Then, she made it worse by laughing.

"Are you saying that you want me to try to get information from Danny?" Wo Fat just stood there.

"You will help us, Ms. Ames, or Mr. Williams is dead." Monica immediately stopped laughing. Wo Fat and the other man left. All that Monica could do was stare blankly after them.

When Monica arrived home that night, she didn't know what to do. There was no doubt in her mind that Wo Fat would kill Danny.

Monica had prepared a delicious meal admittedly because she felt guilty about considering to betray Danny.

"Wow, what's all this about?" Danny asked. Monica kissed him passionately and Danny had forgotten the question that he had asked.

During dinner, Monica started making, what she hoped, would be seen as small talk.

"So, Danny, is there anything new on the case?" She had asked this question before, so it wouldn't seem unusual.

"Well, we're moving Macualan on Thursday which should make things die down a little." Monica didn't realize it, but the smile she always wore faded.

"I guess that means that you won't have to guard me anymore." She waited to see what he would say.

Danny couldn't believe that she would think that he was just doing his job. He reached out his hand to stroke her cheek. She could see the hurt look on his face, and she was ashamed.

"Danny. I'm sorry. I . . ." She almost told him, but she suddenly got an image of him dead. So, instead of telling him, she kissed him. Danny was so engrossed in that kiss, that he didn't even realize that she had been about to say something else.

The next day, Monica was not surprised when Wo Fat showed up at her apartment.

"Were you able to obtain the information that we are seeking?" She hated the way he talked.

"Yes, they are moving him on Thursday."

She hated doing business with this slimy creature.

"Thank you." He turned to leave.

"Is that it?" She asked in disbelief.

"Oh, this packet might interest you should you want to talk to anyone." She didn't want to look, but she did.

"Oh, no." There were pictures and a very good forgery of her with the members of The Red Dragon. She thought about the events of the last few days. With all of this evidence, it did look as if she were involved.

"What am I going to do?" She thought to herself.

Little did Monica know, but a duplicate packet of the information that was given to her was sent to Five _O headquarters.

"Danno, I need to see you in my office." Steve didn't like what he had to do. He had been watching the relationship develop between the girl and the young detective. Danny had looked happier lately that Steve had ever seen him.

"Danny, this was just delivered."

He decided not to say anything and to just let Danny look at it. Danny couldn't believe it.

"This can't be true. Monica is an art teacher. This has to be forged." Steve watched as his long time friend was about to fall apart.

"You might be right Danno. Why don't you go and ask her?"

Steve didn't know what to believe, but if this girl was somehow involved with The Red Dragon, he knew that Danny was the one to deal with it.

On the way to Monica's apartment, Danny realized that he had told Monica when they were moving Macualan. He picked up the radio.

"Steve, I told Monica when we were moving Macualan." There was silence on the other end until finally Steve said that he would take care of it.

Danny started to get angry. He had betrayed Steve's trust. It was Monica's fault. He drove faster.

When Monica opened the door, Danny strove past her and into the room.

"So, have you been having fun playing me?" Danny asked angrily.

To say that Monica was stunned would be an understatement.

"Danny, w_what are you talking about?" Danny threw the packet down onto the table in front of him.

Monica picked up the packet and slowly looked through it. Even without looking, she knew what it was.

"Oh, my . . . " She didn't know what to say.

"This _ isn't true. IT's fabricated." Danny wanted to believe her. HE wanted to believe her so badly. Monica thought, Wo Fat must have sent them the information anyway. Well, all bets were off.

"Look, Danny, I can explain." It was then that Danny turned away from her in disgust.

The tears began to flow down Monica's face. She had really messed up this time. She had never really had much luck with guys in the past either. They were either straight up jerks or she did something stupid to mess things up. Danny was such as a nice guy. He was perfect and she had to go and mess things up.

"Danny, please let me explain." He had walked out onto the patio and was looking at the ocean. Tears were falling from his eyes.

"Danny, please . . . " She went to touch him and he flinched.

"I didn't want to do it, but this man, Wo Fat said that he would kill you." Danny snapped to attention at the sound of Wo Fat's name. IT fit. IT was his style _ preying on innocent people and making them do his dirty work.

"I'm listening . . . " She was relieved.

"Everything that I told you about the mugging was true. Then, I was visited by Wo Fat at school. He wanted me to find out when they were moving Macualan. After that, he showed me that file and said that if I told anyone, he would show the police that file. I guess that he sent it to you anyway." She couldn't believe that she had been so stupid. She was crying now as she thought about losing Danny.

Danny took her face into his hands and kissed her deeply. She ran her fingers through Danny's hair. Danny moaned in response.

"I knew it couldn't be true. I just knew. Let's go and tell Steve about Wo Fat."

Monica nodded, smiling through her tears.

"Wo Fat came to my school and told me to tell him when Macualan was being released, or he would kill Danny."

She almost broke down with the realization of it. Danny put his arm around her shoulder and squeezed.

"I got Danny to tell me when they were moving Macualan, and then I told Wo Fat. He showed me the packet of fabricated material to scare me into keeping quiet." Danny gave her another squeeze.

"Well, you don't have to worry. We've already moved Macualan. We're going to have a decoy on Thursday. That's how we'll get him."

Monica had gone home. She felt terrible. She had almost gotten Danny into a lot of trouble.

"I mess up everything I touch," she said to herself. She was crying now and she knew what she had to do.

She called the school and asked for some time off. Then, she called the airline and began to pack. She cried the whole time.

"He's better off without me." She kept saying.

When she finally finished, she called a taxi and left for the airport.

"Uh, Steve, can I talk to you?" Steve was expecting this visit from Danny.

"Uh, Steve, do you think there'll be any charges brought against Monica?"

Steve smiled.

"You're in love with her, aren't you?" Steve asked. Danny sort of hung his head as he answered.

"Yeah, I guess I am." Steve slapped Danny on the back.

"She won't be prosecuted. She just can't leave town before the trial."

Danny smiled.

"Don't worry, I'll keep track of her."

When Danny arrived at Monica's apartment, he could feel prickles on the back of his neck. Something was wrong.

He knocked and knocked. Fortunately, he knew where she kept a spare key.

When he opened the door, everything was quiet. She wasn't there. Danny picked up the phone and called Monica's school.

"She's taken a leave of absence, sir."

When he hung up, Danny didn't know what to think. Then he looked at the pad of paper by the phone. He took the pencil and shaded across the top page to make the impression come through.

"It's a flight number." Danny immediately ran to Monica's bedroom. He could see that a lot of her clothes were missing. Danny ran immediately from the apartment.

********************************************************************* When Danny arrived at the airport, he looked around frantically to get his bearings. He looked for the gate that Monica had listed on the paper. He ran. He only had minutes before Monica's plane was to take off. He saw her. She was crying. He felt tears fill his eyes as well.

"Monica . . . "

She turned and saw him and it was as if the flood gates were opened. She started crying openly as she ran to meet him.

"Why did you leave me?" He asked through his tears.

"I betrayed you Danny. I always mess good things up. I love you, Danny, but I almost messed up your life as well." He held her and tried to sort out his feelings. He knew that he loved her and now he knew that she loved him as well.

He kissed her as applause rang out from the crowd around them.

"You'll have to marry me now." Monica was shocked.

"Oh, why is that?" She asked as she looked into his eyes.

"Well, I do have a reputation to uphold. And besides, I think someone just snapped our picture. They think we're getting married." Without a thought, Monica said, "I do!"

Look at me

You may think you see

Who I really am

But you'll never know me

Every day

It's as if I play a part

Now I see

If I wear a mask

I can fool the world

But I cannot fool my heart

Who is that girl I see

Staring straight back at me

When will my reflection show

Who I am inside

I am now

In a world where I

Have to hide my heart

And what I believe inBut somehow

I will show the world

What's inside my heart

And be loved for who I am

Who is that girl I see

Staring straight back at me

Why is my reflection

Someone I don't know

Must I pretend that I'm

Someone else

For all time

When will my reflection show

Who I am inside

There's a heart that must be free to fly

That burns with a need to know the reason why

Why must we all conceal

What we think

How we feel

Must there be a secret me

I'm forced to hide

I won't pretend that I'm

Someone else

For all time

When will my reflection show

Who I am inside

When will my reflection show

Who I am inside
